André van der Zande
em. prof. A.N. (André) van der Zande
André van der Zande (born 1952) served as Director-General of the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) from January 2011 to August 2018. Prior to that, he worked at various prominent knowledge institutes including Alterra, and held a part-time post as Belvedère Professor of Spatial Planning and Cultural History at Wageningen University and Research Centre from 2005 to 2009. In 2002 he joined the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality. Mr van der Zande served as Director-General at the Ministry until 2007. His areas of responsibility included rural policy, nature and biodiversity, manure policy and general environmental policy. He was Secretary-General at the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality from 2007 until the Ministry’s merger with the Ministry of Economic Affairs.
