The Council for Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment (VROM-raad)

The Council for Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment (VROM-raad) provides advice to the government and parliament on sustainable environment policy, particularly in the fields ofhousing, spatial planning and the environment. The Council for Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment is composed of independent experts from various backgrounds.

Mission and terms of reference

The Council for Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment provides advice to the government and parliament on sustainable environment policy, particularly in the field of  housing, spatial planning and the environment. The emphasis is placed on strategic choices for the medium and long term at the beginning of the policy cycle. In addition, the Council for Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment provides both solicited and unsolicited advice pertaining to topical issues. The Council for Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment is composed of independent experts from various backgrounds. This fosters a broad-based approach for the advice provided. Many reports are drawn up in active collaboration with other advisory councils.

With effect from 1 January 2010, the Council for Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment has operated a joint secretariat with the Council for the Rural Area and the Advisory Council for Transport, Public Works and Water Management.

Members

The Council for Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment is composed of three members and chaired by H.M. Meijdam. The council members are independent and appointed on the basis of their broad social expertise and experience.
